Understanding The Football Wagering System
Posted on November 14th, 2009 No commentsIf you follow football and are well informed, it can be very tempted to get involved with football wagering, but before you go at it blindly, there are several things to consider and understand which actually makes football wagering a little bit different than just picking the winners.
The most popular type of bet in the football wagering system is the spread bet, this is where the bookmaker will determine which team is the favorite and which is the underdog and the number of points a team has to win or lose by so that the bettor can receive a payout.
When you are looking at the betting odds, you will see one team with a negative sign beside the number and that signifies that they are the favorite. So let’s say that the Jets from New York are favorites by 6.5 next to their name, which actually means that they are the team that is the favorite to win the game against their opponents and that the other team would need to lose by 7 points or more for the bet on the Jets to be a winner. Those people betting against the Jets would win their bets if New York only wins the game by 6 pts. So what this actually shows is that it is very possible for your team to win the game, but you will still end up losing your bet using the spread.
Over/Under Totals, futures and squares are also other forms of football wagering, but you will find that most of the time you will be betting using the point spread as it is the most popular amongst bettors.
